About Black Pine

Black Pine (Kuromatsu) Lodge is located in a quiet setting, but within walking distance, away from the hustle and noise of Echoland and Happo, a short walk to downtown Hakuba Village and the train station yet central to most of the resorts. When purchased, the lodge was a Japanese-style Bed and Breakfast with western facilities and beds. Shuttles to most resorts are available within a few minutes walk from the lodge. This type of arrangement is common in Japan. There is still a large dining area and bar and the communal lounge area is fitted with a large-screen TV with many pre-recorded movies and TV shows available.

For dinner, one of the joys of visiting Japan is experiencing the various restaurants, Izakaya’s and Ryokans and the amazing variety of food that is available at prices so low you will find it hard to believe. All tastes and food styles can be accounted for in Hakuba… no one is left hungry. There are many restaurants (even pizza restaurants) and bars within a short walking distance and you can catch the regular nighttime shuttle buses and taxis to save the walk. We know this area well after being here for almost 20 years and can advise you where to eat and party.

From the Lodge, you can see the rising peaks of the Japanese Alps and the ski runs of Hakuba 47 and Happo One and the summit of Iwatake, including the giant Nordic Jumps built for the 1998 Winter Olympics. We never tire of this view and are sure that you will also find Hakuba magical as well.

We want you to enjoy your visit to Hakuba and we are wanting to answer your questions. Just ask.
